Could you test your device?

Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test

Thanks for the suggestion  .

My problem was resolved by going to Camera, selecting the Flash options and turning Torch on and off there.

It then worked OK from the dropdown menu. 

Not really sure why this occurred but good to have a simple resolution.
