Update killed phone.

Hi,

Yesterday, I downloaded the newest update (not sure which one, I think it's lollipop? I was using Kitkat). So this morning, when I try installing the update, it failed at about halfway and my phone dies. Since then I could not turn my phone on at all...I've tried all the recommended steps, such as pushing the volume buttom up + power, entering safe mode...pressing the yellow button by the sd card. Furthermore, I've tried connecting it to a computer, it's not recognized. The phone is literally dead. Not sure what I should do now? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Okay, so at the part where the Pc Companion asks me to connect my phone while holding the volume button down (as you also suggested) nothing happens. There is a delay, and then windows just displays a message that says "Usb device not recognized". There is also no feedback from the phone, the screen doesn't turn on, nothing vibrates, it's dead?

If you are receiving that message then the driver isn't installed or you could be using a USB 3.0 socket

Definitely not a 3.0 Usb, regarding the driver, windows usually covers this on it's own. Where would I be able to download it?

It should auto install via Pc companion but if you are using a 64bit system or Windows 8 then you may run into difficulties so you could try compatibility mode or use another Pc running Win7 32bit

Edit: You could also check device manager and look for the yellow warning symbol then try to install this manually and direct it to this folder to look for the driver C:\Program Files\Sony\Sony PC Companion\Drivers

If that fails then a member from XDA has a program which may help install the correct driver - See here to download and install

You can also try another USB port, you would be surprised how often that is enough to get past this issue.

Hello,

I have tried all of the above suggestions, I have ensured my drivers are updated, my usb slots are not the problem and, after my phone battery died I charged it. The display finally came up and the phone attempted to start up.

The problem now however is that the phone starts up, shows the Sony logo, then goes dead, repeatedly. I have done almost everything to fix this issue, and tried all the solutions posted by users of the same problem. I have restarted the phone numerous times, attempted to connect it via the pc companion and nothing works. I even tried to repair/restore my phone but it wont connect to the pc. When it starts up, the pc companion tries to read the phone, then stops because the phone shuts off.

I am at my wits end, I have had problems as a result of not having my phone and all I tried to do is update it to the newest software. Although I am reluctant to send the phone in to Sony to fix themselves, as I know I will have to pay all the repair costs, I feel there is no other way to resolve this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh and this Bahamut profile is actually me, Zereleth, but for some reason the site forced me to choose a new alias.
