PC Companion on Windows XP ?

Hi i'm a new Xperia user and i'm trying to setup the link with PC using PC Companion

The latest software (ie Sony PC Companion_Web 2.10.226) installs without complaining but nothing happens when i try to launch the installed software.

My computer is an Athlon 2200+ using windows XP SP3 with latest update.

My account has admin rights.

I found out that there is a Drwatson error log stating (sorry my system is French)

"Une exception d'application s'est produite :
App : C:\Program Files\Sony\Sony PC Companion\PCCompanion.exe (pid=2952)
Lorsque : 27/09/2014 @ 17:05:06.554
Numéro d'exception : c000001d (instruction non autorisée)"

So it seems that the exe is crashing trying to execute a non authorized instruction.

I tried to use former versions of PC companion (2.10.221 and 2.10.206) but without any better result

My Java version is 7 beta 67 (should bne the latest).

Does anyone encountered such trouble and knows a workout ?

Is there a specific version of PCC to seek that works fine on XP ?

Thanks

Hi,

i seem to have similar problem with PC software. I run w7 and installation went smoothly. However, connecting the phone is a different story. i have tried 3 different versions and i still cant get my hear around it inspire the good guidance of the good people of the community. Maybe experiment on a different device and see that helps. In my case no change at all.

Ok i tested the PC Companion software on several computers

It works on Pentium 4 2 Ghz from 2002 and on a Ahtlon 2 X3 from 2010

it does not work on a Pentium III from 2000, on a Duron 1 Ghz fron 2001 and on my Athlon XP from 2002 😞

My best guess is that it requires some processor instructions like SSE2 that are on PIV but not on Athlon XP.
