How to roam in the USA

I'm a retired Canadian and a happy owner of a Xperia Z5 Premium.  My contract is with Rogers.

I will be driving from Ontario to San Francisco to visit my son.  For safety reasons I would still like to be able to use my phone, preferable with phone, testing, and data.  I'm trying to find the most cost effective way to do this.  My phone has dual sim card slots so is there a way I can get a US sim prepaid and have it before I leave?   The Rogers roaming plans seem expensive.

Thanks,

Dave

Check for any prepaid AT&T or T-Mobile SIM card; with that said, keep in mind that if your phone it's network branded you might NOT be able to use a different carrier's SIM card. I know that AT&T and T-Mobile have data agreements when going abroad, for example if you are in AT&T and travel to Mexico or Canada you have 1GB of your data to use w/o any charge, perhaps Rogers has a similar option.
