Answering Machine

Does the Answering Machine feature still exist in the XZ1 Compact?

If yes, where do I find it?

Yes. I will have a look. It's the built in to do list I miss most. Easy to set a reminder the next day and with the same alarm as the alarm clock

Btw. Can't find Sony Xperia keyboard any more. Taken away recently?

Not much left of Sony inventions now

Hi again @Lemmy2!

The information that I have available regarding the Xperia keyboard is that the Xperia Keyboard is not available for devices from the X series (except for the Xperia X / X Dual SIM and Xperia X Compact). Instead, SwiftKey Keyboard is preloaded.

If you want, you can download another clock application and see if that one suits you better, create a calendar event or even a Google Keep reminder.

I can see now that I totally missed the question about recording the screen, sorry about that.

This feature is not available in device in the Xperia X-series, so you will need to download an application from the Google Play store that can record your screen. It should be enough is you just search for "record screen" or "screen recorder" and there should be a few different applications to choose from!

I hope that explains a bit more why certain features are not available and I have forwarded your feedback internally as user feedback is very important to us! Slightly_smiling_Face

Have a great Wednesday afternoon!

Thank you for answer. I just want to say I'm using the Xperia Keyboard right now on my Xz1 compact. It was on playstore a couple of months ago.

I see! There may be some kind of delay from when the device is launched and how long an application is available for download in the Google Play store, I'm afraid that I don't have any information if that is the case though, but it would make sense, since you were able to download it previously! I completely agree about the  list of missing features described in the message below.  I would also add that I am unable to imagine why the "group" contacts feature has been missing for several years.  If I wanted a Google Pixel phone's features, I would have purchased a Google Pixel.  PLEASE make these features available again.  They (and the compact size) are what has distinguished the Sony Xperia brand and why I have remained a loyal Sony cell phone customer for 20+ years.

Hi @SWD, welcome to our forum and I'm really happy to hear that you have been with us for so long, 20 years is a lot! Slightly_smiling_Face

The group feature was removed in Android 7.0, but you can still create labels in the Contacts application that you can use to send group messages and "group" Emails.

To create a label

  1. In Contacts, tap the menu (three horizontal lines).
  2. Tap Create label, then type a name for the label > tap OK.

To add contacts to a label

  1. In Contacts, tap the menu (three horizontal lines).
  2. Tap the group that you want to add contacts to.
  3. If there are no previous contacts in the group, tap ADD CONTACTS, then tap the contact you want to add.
  4. If there are already one or more contacts in the group, tap the add contact icon, then tap the contact you want to add.
  5. To add several contacts, long press one contact until a check box appears beside every contact. Tap the check box for every contact you want to add, then tap ADD.

Keep in mind that if you create a label, for example, on your Google account, only contacts that are synchronized with this specific Google account can be added to the label.

I hope that answers your question about groups and for the rest of the features, I'll forward your feedback internally!

Thank you and have a nice day!
