Android 9 messed up my XZ Premium.

Hello!

I updated my Xperia XZ Premium to Android 9 Pie earlier this morning straight away when it became available in the UK.

It was all going well and I was enjoying the update, until 5 hours had passed.

My mum tried to ring while I was on the bus back from college, but nothing showed up on my phone, my phone just turned the screen on and went back off which I thought was weird.

After messaging my mum to ring me, my phone did exactly the same thing as before.

I went into my phone app and saw that all the calls she was making were getting declined automatically.

I've gone through settings and made sure I didn't have Airplane Mode on or Do Not Disturb, and I don't.

As I got home, I decided to try again (thinking I had fixed the problem) but it did it again, however this time it showed the notification that someone was ringing but straight away the notification disappeared and the phone that I was ringing from went to a "Caller Engaged" tone, mum said it's just been doing that.

Android 9 seems to have messed up my phone and I'm no longer able to receive calls from ANYONE, I restarted my phone and it allowed someone to get through and me being able to answer it, it worked and I was calming down, but then went straight back to rejecting any calls right after I put the phone down.

What am I supposed to do?? My phone now can't even do a basic function thanks to this new update, I'm seriously contemplating on switching to IOS because of this update, I'm a young student who NEEDS to be in contact with friends and family, for both personal and professional reasons. What if it's a emergency, and no one is able to contact me because my phone automatically rejects any and every call now?

Is there a fix for this? Is it a well known issue with Android 9? If so, then when are Sony or Google going to release a fix? Android 9 Pie is the last update the Xperia XZ Premium will receive, so I'm scared that it'll never get fixed on my device.

I'm taking it to the store I bought it from last year, hopefully they'll be able to fix it, but if any of you know what may be wrong, please help! I actually beg of you..

Hi @TK971

I´m sorry to know that!

I have myself an updated XZ Premium, but i didn't find any bugs in this one week space.

Have you tried to delete app cache of phone app? Or boot into safe mode, It can be a good idea to check if any third party applications might be involved in the problem you’re having? Since Android P is recent, some apps aren´t fully compatible yet!

If that doesn´t help, I´ll recommend you to perform a Software Repair using Xperia Companion since it's always advised to do a clean installation after a big system update!

Please note that this will erase all your internal memory (not the one present on the sd-card). Make sure you have backup everything into your Google Accounts and/or sd-card!

Let me know if it fixes the problem!

Hello!

Fortunately it was just a third party app that was causing it.

It appears that my Calls Blacklist app was marking every number as a private/unknown number, and after uninstalling it my phone is working perfectly. I should have made this post as resolved the moment I fixed the issue but forgot to, my mistake!

1. Incoming calls don't show up, only the ringtone comes out

2. Earpiece and mouthpiece fails from time to time, which is highly annoying

3. Voice is not recorded in video recordings/audio recordings, needs restart, but that does not guarantee anything.

4. Gboard acts weird while typing

5. Heavier apps such as PubG, etc tend to become laggy all of sudden even when other apps have been killed.

Sony, whats the point in hurrying to release the latest OS update if you don't iron out the bugs. From being a fantastic beast, my XZ PREMIUM now needs deliberate, periodic resucitation to work fine. I hope you fix this asap with bug fixes.

Sorry to hear about your issue. My update has messed my phone up as well but lucky for me not in relation to calls or messaging.

My phone has stopped conecting to Bluetooth devices or will connect but with poor functionality.

Not a big problem to most but when I need it for work it's a nightmare for me.
