Xperia SP Display Problem!

All SP owners please check this in your phone as well.

I'm having problems with my sp's display when the phone is kept on horizontal surface.

In the video,  phone is kept on the bed and i'm trying to use it. But you can see  the screen just misses the touch 😕 I wonder why.

This only happens when the phone is kept horizontally.

Ps: screen guard is not the problem since I checked with 2 different guards and phone works perfectly in hands.

PS2 > The screen works fine while phone is put to charging.

just go for software update in any authorised sony xperia care center

hopefully it will be rectified

Well it started out of no where within 13days of the purchase date. I have given the phone to the service center and they have asked me to wait for 10-15 days.

(No longtime fix!!)

I have good news!

Have had this problem since I bought this phone. About two weeks now. Had to tough the frame with a least one finger in horizontal mode for the display to work properly.

Read this topic, contacted sony support and they told me to repair it with PC Companion. Which helped. I thought it was a hardware problem but it seems like it isn't. The problem seems to be gone now.

I had most problems with the back touch button, down in the left corner. I tested it before the repair and I could see that almost half of the touches wasn't detected. Now every is.

I'm going to test it for a few days and report back here if I notice anything special. But for now the display is working perfectly.

Keep the phone un-connected!

  • Launch PC Companion
  • Start support zone
  • start phone update
  • pop-up comes up telling you, the phone could not be found
  • choose repair from the pop-up window
  • Follow on screen instructions

Use some backup utility because the repair process removes all the data on the phone's internal memory.

I'm from Finland by the way and my specs are:

C5303

12.0.A.1.257

EDIT: Okay, back to normal. Worked for one day. But it's god that it's fixable through software anyway. Will wait for the next couple of firmwares and if they wont fix it then I have to send it for service.

I was having the same problem with my Xperia SP,i performed a factory reset and now the touch is working perfectly.

Yeah it seems like the factory settings are working okay.

Please let us know in a couple of days when you have put back your apps and modified the settings for you liking.

Something with the software (luckily) is bugging out the display. And it's not the glove mode, though it is enabled at factory settings.

I've been following this thread since I first encountered problem thinking its a software glitch and can be repaired thru software.

Unfortunately, even after factory reset and also repairing the phone using pc companion, it seems to be reproducible very easily in my SP. I will try to give it to service center as it is the last option left for me.

Hi Johan,

Can you let us know how to calibrate it on our own. as going to service center is last option.

I think atleast some of users can do it on their own instead of going to service center and surrendering the phone for a week which is not a good option.

I got this unit for 6 days now and today I had this problem. I think I had this issue few days ago but I just shrugged it off since it was just a brief moment that the screen was not responding. I noticed that this issue happens more when charging the unit. The worst case happened today; the screen was completely unresponsive until I did a hard reset. It was okay after the hard reset but keeps me in doubt that resetting the unit fixed it.

I was trying to sync the Xperia on Facebook feature (not sure if that is the actual option in the phone since I dont have my phone while writing this) in the settings when this issue happened. I was synchronizing Xperia on Facebook feature and charging the phone at the same time when this happened. Not sure if this phone application triggered it or if the charging process made the phone go loco.

I completely love the phone, but I hate to send a 6 day old phone for repair. That is just a big thumbs down. I love my Xperia SP but this is breaking my heart. I hope the dealer will swap this out with a new unit. But that is just wishful thinking, it's not part of the warranty to swap it out. Of course, if we report this, they will say they need to repair it. I'll check with the dealer and see what they can do. I need to let them know I'm having this issue right away. I don't want to be stuck with a phone that does not work properly after a few days of usage.

For you who's reading this, I'm just letting you know my experience. I pray to Allah, Quezacotl, Odin, Zeus, Jupiter, JC, Yahweh, Amaterasu and all the Polynesian and African gods that this will not happen to your Xperia SP. Thinking_Face

If you're having this issue where the "phone touchscreen is intermittent when phone is placed on a flat surface", try this:

  1. ENABLE "Glove mode" in Settings -> Display
  2. ENABLE "Swipe" lock screen in Settings -> Security
  3. Press power button and release to Turn Off the screen
  4. Press power button and release to Turn On the screen
  5. Press power button and release to Turn Off the screen again
  6. Press power button and release to Turn On the screen, AND swipe to unlock phone

After I did the above, I was unable to replicate the issue.  Disabling either Glove mode or Lockscreen caused the issue to return immediately after turning the screen off.

Note: I was only able to test for a few minutes before I parted ways with my Xperia SP, so I cannot confirm whether the problem will return after a few days.  But the steps are quick and easy and sure beats going to a service centre.
