Sony default camera buggy after lollipop update unusable sometimes!

I thought I'd fixed this issue by uninstalling loads of Sony built in apps in my z1c but it has happened again, seemingly after I received a movie from the don't movie maker app this morning but can't be sure it is to do with that.
Basically you select camera but the screen that pops up is only the bottom half and the menus are squashed up in that half and you can't select any button to take a picture. I then have to stay using another camera app I downloaded which is slow and lagging. My phone generally seems so buggy now since lollipop too. Things crash or lag and I seen to be forever charging my phone. I've had this issue within my warranty but now that's expired since the 31st may do I'm thinking of rooting as I did with my HTC desire years ago to install my own OS, I just have a Mac do it's not straight forward to do.
Anyone else had this issue with the camera?

Ever since the lollipop upgrade my z1 compact camera no longer works. The top part of the screen is black and the aspect ratio of the camera is all bunched up in the bottom half. You can't usually select anything but sometimes I've gotten it to take a picture and it may be all messed up like the viewfinder or it may work. I did diagnostics in settings and the camera works fine there. I also put phone in safe mode and the problem still exists there. When I saw the lollipop update I hoped that would fix it and straight after the camera worked again but since restarting it is back to being a above. In having to use open camera meanwhile but it is slow/laggy. I'll try posting screen shots.

@Blondelicious

Settings > apps > all > camera > clear data > restart the phone

it'll be wise to reinstall lollipop as it will smooth things out

I tried the advice before writing on here but it didn't change the problem. Its weird because it appears to randomly happen for a few days and affect different camera apps too but then when I showed the problem to a family member the other day, it worked again! The only thing I can think that was different was that the phone had switched off from dead battery but I've tried restarting before and going in safe mode and they didn't fix it.
I've had more stable ROMs on my rooted HTC Desire then lollipop in the z1c! I want to root this phone to explore different lollipop builds but sung have a pc for the rooting software I need. I have a Mac.

It happened to me twice on Z3C when camera wasn't launched by camera button but selected from recent apps. How you launch it?

I have the camera app on my home screen as part of my launcher Smart Launcher Pro 3 but even in safe mode, it was happening. It's so random that at the moment I'm using Google camera but might just try the inbuilt one and find it works and then doesn't again another time and then Google Camera may do the same, or any camera I install.

I'm finding my phone buggy generally too and slow, like it's 3 years old rather than one and for a £380 purchase it isn't good enough. I had my HTC desire for 4 years and although I had to root it to get the most from it, a year is too short for a phone to last without rooting if you ask me!

The battery is terrible these days too, in charging a couple of times a day. And why Facebook has to use nearly 300mb is beyond me! My apps use 7gb of space and I don't have that many.

If you discharge phone in less than three hours then definitely is something wrong. In the phone or with your apps.

Z1 is light years faster than Desire except if the phone is full of background running apps or storage is nearly full.

Why Fb and other apps are so big and consume 7GB of storage? Because app developers doesn't give a s..t to optimize apps. They just don't care and here you have results.

Quad core CPU able to play 4K video have problems with reading simple news feed.

But review thoroughly list of your apps. There is at least one app that consumes most of the cpu and RAM, causing reloads and garbage collection effectively decreasing performance and battery life.
