Possibly bricked, maybe dead. Oops.

A bit of black market under the radar dealing for spare parts landed me an xperia SP with a good glass screen so I could fix my smashed cover glass. What neither me or my friend realised is that his phone, although water damaged, operated, but the battery was toast. I ordered a load of genuine spares, a Cover glass panel, new battery, new backplate and cover and it ran fine a couple of days ago when not in the frame. However. Today, i got the touchscreen and I've tried to boot with everything connected, bearing in mind i had tested it all on my own SP to make sure it all ran perfectly. I've encountered what i assume to be a system recovery state. I'll attach a picture. It's got a bar at the bottom that has whizzed along for over an hour now without booting further. It gave the usual three buzzes for a dead battery on boot and took a few minutes to gather enough power to boot up at all. I will stress that the system has been running and before i stripped it down for repairs i did install the latest software on it (it hadn't booted or updated in over 7 months).

Is there anything i can do, or is it bin-fodder?

Thanks, Rob.DSC_0096.JPG

Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

The bar you see is the operating system trying to update and the 3 buzzes you mention is your phone been switched off,

So I guess that due to non use etc and no battery been connected it's lost the bios or in this case the eeprom settings so hopefully following the above will bring this back to life

it eventually booted, however, i have a new, more troublesome problem. Half of my touchscreen is dead, unsure as to why, could this be a hardware fault or some kind of spacing fault? I did wipe over the inside of the screen with a cloth with a small amount of fingerprint remover on and then wiped it with a dry microfibre after, but this was to both halves and only one half is non functional. The phone is working perfectly otherwise.

Is the digitizer connected correctly ie: half in half out etc or is there any dirt blocking the pins/connection plug

i'll take it apart and look, i'll let you know if i found anything or disassembly then reassembly solves the problem

digitiser connection checked and re-seated, no change

Which leaves either the motherboard connection faulty or the digitizer connection faulty

I'm going to try the digitiser from my working phone, although, if it's a motherboard fault and it fries the other digitiser, i'm without a leg to stand on

i swapped the motherboards over, it's definitely the digitiser

Cheaper and easier to replace - Not all doom and gloom
