name contacts been wiped

Hi first time on the site. Had aproblem with my xperia j all the contacts wiped off been to the shop where igot it from they looked at the phone and managed to rettieve some of my contacts not all. I got told that a few people had  had the same problem wonder if any one else new anything about the problem and how to cure this.

If you synced them with google 

Phonebook > menu > filter > google contacts also on that menu see if there is a backup somewhere, if not, you are out of luck.
