WH-1000XM3 won't charge

I recewived my headphones yesterday 11th Septemebr 2018 and they just won't charge. Tried on Mac tried on USB charge but they won't charge at all. Sony Help Guide for previous model WH-1000XM2 says charge directly to a computer - Why?? The computer must not hibernate, Anyway Ive done all that and updated them because I managed to pair them (with the Sony Headphone App showing the battery empty ) to my iphone. They just will not charge.

I had tried before pairing them to the iphone , to reset to factory settings but that didn't do anything.

I'll be taking them back.

I,m on Wh-1000XM3 number 2, first one mailorder, second rplacement from BestBuy store, will not charge past 10%. no matter laptop, supplied cable, different cables, different AC adapters, different outlets. Red LED goes out in 3 minutes, even ignore that and let it sit for hours.10% no more. tried factory resets differnt ways and times 10%. Maybe time for B&O or B&W headphones instead.

This has just happened to me too but just as they went out of warrantee.

The staff at the repair centre were awful. TOLD me it was because I'd charged them for too long without even seeing them. Told me the battery will only last 10 months when overcharging. I can see this is nonsense now after reading that it happens to people after a very brief period.

I've just replaced the battery myself with a 3rd party battery from Germany, same problem...

I can't believe I've wasted £350 on this trash... I'd heard from photographer friends that Sony customer service is the worst they've experienced but I didn't think it could possibly be this bad!

Never again.

Hi travissimo,

What are you using to charge your headset?

Cheers,

Could you just clarify what you did to get them repaired as I'm struggling

I didn’t. I gave up and vowed to avoid Sony products from now on as their customer service is amongst the worst I’ve experienced.

Can you imagine if Apple behaved like this? They'd never hear the last of it.

I just use them wired on my XBOX now and I'll buy from a company like Bose or Apple next time.

Cut your losses.

I thought as much...your right though Sony now, complete shambles. I'll have to make changes in that which I own of Sony products and possibly look to change my username for starters haha

And thanks for getting back.

WH-1000XM3 ('Headband' in USA, 'closed cup' and/or 'over the ear' in Europe/studios)

Bypassing all the dufus stuff such as "is the mains plug switched on"? or "has the roving Guinea pig eaten the lead....?"

If the red LED light does not light up when you use either the power supply with a mains electric plug or just the USB (3.0) to USB C lead then do a hard reset. This will wipe all your settings such as pairing.

I have had to do this twice now.

HOW? To do it have phones off, nothing connected and press 'power' and 'nc/ambient' buttons at the same time and hold them down for 7 seconds. Then you will get 4 quick flashes of the blue LED. Phones have now been hard reset. Leave off and plug in power and red LED should light up as it starts to charge.

As a side note, the battery is a Li-ion or Lithium Ion. These do NOT like to be run right down to nothing then charged right up again so as soon as you hear the 'low battery' warning you will be helping battery life if you recharge straight away. Maybe varying amount of reminders you get would be better as well.  This is not really about battery memory as 'how much charge can it hold' but more about 'how many years before the battery goes wrong/fails'. Little and often partial charges at room temperature is a good idea.

Soft resets will not help.

Hi,

I have a similar recharging problem... only had the earphones a year and now when I plug the charger in (via an A/C adaptor) the red charging light comes on, but goes off after about 1 min 15 secs.  I tried a hard reset, but that didn't work... seems like the battery is shot?  Any ideas?

Yes.

Give up and move on to AirPods Pro and vow never to buy Sony again.

Worked for me.

Kindest regards...
