My headphones were working well, but have now started making a terrible loud noise in the right ear whenever noise cancelling is turned on.
Resetting makes no difference.
Anybody else had this?
Problem solved!
I started to hear a sound like a slight wind is blowing in the right ear cups from the first day I bought headphones. The reason is a toach panel. To solve the problem you need to switch panel off in the app and switch headphones off for a while to wait until static electricity goes away. When you switch on the headphones you will hear no noise. Of course until you switch on touch panel, and of course panel do not work in this solution.
I bought a new pair for my wife last week and the issue started immediately. Now I need to go through the pains of testing multiple solutions to see whether one of them will work for me... Very frustrating for such an expensive product...
All NC headphones produce some sort of hiss as feedback, which is why manufacturers always recommend having it turned off unless in a noisy environment.
But in case it's a glitch of some sort that amplifies this feedback, I'd say make sure it is updated to the latest software version and check whether it is audible when connected to different devices or just one.

ME too!!
Hissing noise when noise cancelling is turned on is normal, it's feedback from the NC circuit. This is why it's recommended to have NC Off when in a relatively quiet environment.
That said, it is never a bad idea to check that your headphones are up to date.
Hi Joe,
The issue is not hissing noise. The issue is hissing noise in just ONE ear even when the headphones are up to date.
I hope this helps.
Hi Everyone,
I sent my brand new WH-1000XM3 to Sony Central Service here in the UK.
The speaker was found to be faulty, and this was causing the loud hiss on the left earcup.
They couldn’t repair the fault so they replaced the headphones with a brand new WH-1000XM4!
I am delighted with the upgrade. I think it was a very nice action from Sony, and a sort of compensation for the initial disappointment with the faulty headphones and all the trouble I went through to investigate the issue and get it resolved.
Well done Sony! Thank you!
Andre
I’m having the rustle/wind problem in the right cup. Bought last December, very light use, probably only taken outside the house once or twice. I’d say no more than 3 charges. So after 8/9 months the rustle starts. tried all the reset and update options, no fix. The sound /feeling is unbearable in my ear.
I contacted Sony but they’ve been terrible. Not even replying to direct questions on my case via email and fobbing me off with links to pages that aren’t relevant.
John Lewis are currently inspecting them but I’m terrified they’ll also have no answer.
On top of this, I have a second issue where if I answer a phone call on NC the mic picks up all the external sound on the environment and feeds back into the headphones (it’s torture).
Ulgh, so much money. I wish id gotten Bose headphones like I originally intended.
Someone has tried this!
