My headphones were working well, but have now started making a terrible loud noise in the right ear whenever noise cancelling is turned on.
Resetting makes no difference.
Anybody else had this?
Any fix so far besides returning this defectives headphones to Sony? I am ONE MORE guy with the SAME issue, Sony. This is far from ridiculous! We are not talking about a cheap $40 headphone to come with issues like that.
I don’t have the receipt anymore and you don’t go as nice as Apple does in their RMA policy.
Then in this case what should I do? Tell the world how crappy and faulty your expensive products can be? Through this crap in the gargabe and never buy anything again from you?
No worries, I will be more than welcomed to not only never buy any Sony product, but also to tell everybody about how I feel deceived about your expensive products if you cannot come with an easy fix for that falsely advertised product.
SHAME ON YOU, SONY. Please provide a quick fix ASAP, such as a software update or even a easy recall assuming that it is a design flaw.
Hi! Try to post the link with spaces in it Thank you!
SHAME ON YOU, SONY. FIX THIS NOW. THIS IS A GENUINE PROBLEM.
Hi! Could you please send to me the link of the possible solution? edited[personal details removed]
Thank you in advance.
I got a second unit with exactly the same problem, but now this time on the left ear cup instead of the right one.
VERY DISAPPOINTING AND WRONG, SONY.
Hi all,
Owner of these of only 4 hours and after a couple of hours of actual use have noticed the right cup brown noise increase from nothing to a really intrusive warble and hiss. I immediately did a bit of research and sad to see this thread confirming it is an issue. However I found a YouTube video suggesting (and yes I'm not joking) slapping the problematic earcup. I did it and and heard a gentle pop and... It worked, the noise is gone. How long this will last I don't yet know. ANC is 'silent' again. I'll be following this thread with interest.
Well that lasted long, it's back and worse than before. Unreal.. think I will be returning these.
Hi Rick,
Have you tried to re-optimize NC?

Hi,
Tired that but it only goes away whilst the optimisation is in progress. Soon as it's finished the noise is back.
It never happens when the headphones are first turned on, it starts from 15 mins in and peaks from half hour onwards. If you turn them off for atleast the same time the issue subsides. I think the circuitry or some other phenomenon causes the ANC circuit in one side to go bezerk. It's unbearable so returning.. I was looking forward to using these on flights etc for the ANC but if anything this is worse than background noise after a short time, especially as it's one sided. This can't be how they all are?!
Sadly I to have fallen victim to this issue with my WH-1000XM3s when ANC is enabled (it is not evident when ANC is disabled). I noticed a faint "rustling" noise in the right ear several weeks back. It took around 30 minutes for the noise to creep in so when music was playing it wasn't always so noticeable but between songs or during a podcast it was clearly evident. It would last for around 60 to 90 minutes before ceasing then reappearing. At times it reminded me of the noise made if you have to put drops in your ear when you can hear fizzing and bubbling!
I hoped the software update to 4.5.2 (I think) would fix it but sadly not. I tried soft and hard resetting the headphones but it came back again very quickly. I also tried this "fix" with the Focus on Voice feature but sadly it didn't help.
In the end I gave up and took the headphones back to John Lewis where I was able to exchange them for another set. Hopefully these work better but I will be keeping an ear out for this noise returning. Thankfully, John Lewis offer a 2 year warranty so I will be protected for a good while if the issue crops up again.
Hi
I'd say contact Sony support and let them know about the issue. The more data they have, the more likely a solution is to be presented.
