Sony WH-1000XM4 noise cancelling not working when on a call

I've had these headphones for a week or so now and have found the noise cancelling to be very good, with or without music playing. However, when on a call, the ambient noise is not just let in, but amplified, so if I'm on a call with colleagues (on my computer or phone), it will pull in the noises and voices around me and play these through my ear at the same volume as the call audio, making it much harder to concentrate on what the people on the call are saying or even hear them at all. Is there a way to turn this off? It basically just means that noise cancelling is turned off during a call, which is usually when I need it the most!

Hey @mustep,

That's actually normal! As noise cancelling doesn't transfer during phone calls.
''Noise cancellation doesn't transfer during telephone calls. Although it protects the headphones user from the surrounding noise, it does not apply to the receiver of the call: they will potentially hear background noise'': https://bit.ly/3ntb6jm.

Hope this helps.

... not true that all noise canceling is deactivated during calls ...BOSE do this perfectly. Sony need to fix this.

Hi jamfit, maybe by design, but in general it is not possible.
