Hi

When you start your laptop, a message will pop up asking you to make a recovery DVD or CDs. You must do this as soon as you can.

I haven't recieved any CD's with my S3HP? I'll pop back down to the Sony center and query them when I get a chance.

As Kee-Lo said, above, you do not generally get recovery CD¿s. It is up to you to create them.

Hi,

The DVDs which are made are not a "ghost" image of the hard disk, but from bin files on a hidden partition, so it's like when it came out of the factory.

I personally think it's kinda cheap of Sony to have decided not to give the buyer any physical CD or DVD's. The prices they asked for their products are almost high-end consumer prices. There for I think buyers can expect the recovery cd's included in the packege and not on some hidden partition on the HDD, which also eats up space.
I've wrote a email on this to SONY, explaining my dissatisfaction. Maybe others should do the same and hope they will change their policy. It won't help probably, but it's better then taking it so easy without some sort if reaction from us, the consumers.

yeh i agree mate, dont IBM do this aswell now.

Talking bout cheap the optical Mat.shitter drive sounds good quality does it not?im no expert! i wasnt too keen on the NVidia 6200 budget graphics card also but i couldnt get my hands on a S2VP with the ATI Radeon 9700 however with all my ranting i still chose the Vaio over anything else out on the market! i would have gone for an IBM T42P but they were real expensive and didnt really want to stretch to nearly 2.5K for a notebook i am likely to replace in a few yrs.

BTW what email addy did u send to

well as for me its depend on which angle you are viewing it, the good thing about recovery partition is you dont get to lose it just like normal cds/dvd ( duno where you kept it after along time), then again you can always burn a few copies to kept it.. and when you are travelling to some other places for a long time you wont need to worry about forgot to bring the recovery cds/dvd along with you.

But then again it did took up some of your precious HDD spaces, and if you forgot to burn a back up copies, and formatted your HDD including the partition then you are in big trouble hehe
