System restore

I have had a VGNFE28B Vaio since late last year, I have one really frustrating issue with it.
For some reason I can only use the useful windows system restore in safe mode and that is incredibly slow. I have asked the tech Guys where I bouhgt it from and they did not seem to have an answer. Should it work or does it conflict with the sony recovery program. If anything goes odd I have to totally factory reset it and that does not see right to me.
Has any one got an answer please.

Do you have Vista or XP and if so does the system restore work immediately after the factory format. Vista is quirky if you are using any pirate software but XP will pretty well let you system restore anything. All I can suggest is wait for service pack one for Vista to come out which should bring back this essencial function to the same reliability as XP

Hi Krissyjj

Norton Internet security has been known to cause problems with System restore..

Do you get an error message something like "Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored . . . "

If not what problems or error messages do you have when trying to use system restore..?

Thanks for your input.
I am running windows XP and Norton , messages are system cannot be restored, or restoration incomplete.

This happens right after my complete recovery and does not seem to have ever worked. No pirates on my computer either. I also usually have a firelite external drive plugged in as I take a lot of photos, does this make any difference.
Does this help

Hi Krissyjj

try this temporary fix..

Open Norton, then click the Options button > Norton AntiVirus.
In the left pane, click Miscellaneous towards the bottom, look for "How to protect my product."
Disable turn protection on for my Norton/Symantec product and click OK

Now try running Windows System Restore again..

Once system restore has completed.

Open Norton again and follow the above guide to re-enable turn protection on, click OK

I hope this helps..

Thanks Thalamus
I have tried that but no good. Could it be anything to do with being wireless. Do you think i should report it to Sony themselves, The computer is under ! year old and it has never worked. Or should I wait for my long awaited Vista upgrade to arrive. The one you so kindly got resurected.
