Notebook cannot stop , keeps going.

hi,
New problem these last 2 days:when i want to stop the session and TURN OFF for the day, i press'' arrêter'', ( and not 'veille' or 'veille prolongée') the blue-green Vista page appears , it says'' closing or arrêt 'and the round curser keeps turning , it NEVER STOPS.What i did this morning to close it off : i pressed 5 good seconds on the on/off button.
It happens each time now! Thank you for the help>

Have a you tried a system restore to a point before the shut down problem occurred..?

To open System Restore click the Start button > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools, then click System Restore.‌

Hi calikid,

There was a Micosoft update within the last few days that cased a very slow shut down while the update was being processed – possibly 15 minutes. Strange thing is that I don’t recall seeing a message to the effect that “MS updates are being installed….”.

Some of these updates can only be installed during the shutdown so, just to be sure, resist the temptation to press the power button and leave it to work for say 30 minutes. You should see hard drive activity during this period….
