hi
i'm unable to get any sound from my tv when i play dvd's. its the first time i've tried playing a dvd on the xl301. i can watch tv and avi files etc as normal.. just no sound from the tv when playing dvd...there is ound from the digital output into my reciever...
does anyone know why?
Hi h4,
I don't think you can have HDMI and SPDIF connected together.
Have you checked the settings for the HDMI input connection on your TV? This is the usual cause. HDMI can accept analogue or digital sound and needs to be set to the correct type. HDMI will only accept 2:1 PCM sound - is your XL301 set to this output with Dolby Digital turned OFF? I think your XL301 has HDMI_1.3 which can handle 5:1 sound but your TV probably can't.
Has anyone here got a XL301 or XL302 working with sound over HDMI. If so can you please publish your sound settings on the forum.

when i watch an avi file or normal tv thorugh the vaio, i can have sound both from the tv and reciever, and the tv is hdmi 1.3-i think its the new tosh-c323030db.
so frustrating....
My wife bought us a VAIO XL301 and I've spent 3 days trying to get it to play sound - of any kind - through the HDMI cable into a 37" Toshiba Regza. Nothing from the headphone socket either. I think the sound card is broken but I have no way of checking, anyone got any ideas? This is my first experience with windows, having always used a Mac, and I'm close to lobbing the thing through the window of my nearest sony centre.
