My VAIO cannot play DVDs

Hi everybody

When I insert a DVD into my VAIO, it does not get recognized. Explorer just reports an empty DVD with 0 bytes free
- even the VAIO applications DVD does not get recognized

CDs work just fine

I restored C: using the VAIO Recovery Disk (DVD or CD? - not sure) but the problem remains

Any ideas?

I have VAIO PCG-GRT996VP

Thanks in advance

George

Hi there.

Has this problem occured since installing or deleting a program?

Has it just stopped working or is it a new pc and has never worked?

Make sure you have all of the necessary updates from Vaio-Link

No

I am not sure because I use DVDs so rarely. I think some of the DVDs are recognizable and some not from the beginning - It even happens with the dvds that ship with my VAIO! 2 out of 3 are not running

There are no DVD driver updates there

I have also tried the following:

1. Full restoration from the working VAIO DVD - No luck
2. Format C: and then install Win XP Pro from scratch - No luck either

Any ideas?

Thanks again

George
