Delay in sound onset in some TV programmes.

We have recently bought a Sony Bravia 55" 4K Android TV. After initial problems,  resolved when we had our aerial signal optimised, reception has been great with excellent HD on terrestrial TV and superb 4K on recorded and streamed media.  However one problem remains.

On certain sorts of TV programmes there is a delayed onset of sound at the beginning of segments, such as change of scene, change of studio camera, change of person speaking.  Delay = 1 to 2 seconds. Once initiated, sound is  properly synced with good sound and picture quality. The delayed onset has been noted at the beginning of some adverts and during news programmes, chat shows, TV drama and  game shows, but never during broadcast or streamed movies. I have started to keep a log, which I will share in due course, if necessary, when I have enough negative and positive data. 20241014_163854.jpg

Steps I have taken include ensuring that in 'Settings' that the system is prioritised for an optical connection to the sound bar. The sound bar, see image,  is an LG with bluetooth subwoofer. Yes, I did power the sound bar off and on after changing settings.

Any suggestions folk?

I have now done that. Let's see what happens over the next day ot two.  Previously I have tried On and Auto. They didn't work, so Off seems reasonable.

I have given it two days with sync off.   Sync is worse than ever. Sync is out every time we switch on thus requiring a restart to correct up to five times a day.

My particular soundbar model is a 2010 model. Will that be the problem?

Put A/V sync back to Auto.

With your old TV was the sound synched with the soundbar?

Are there any settings on the soundbar that allow you to adjust the audio/ lip-synch.

Page 14 of the soundbars manual would suggest so.

If you don't have the manual handy you can download it from here.

Have you checked the optical cable is seated correctly in both devices.

Have you tried a different optical cable to rule out any problems in that area.

It is rather an old model and lacks an HDMI ARC/ eARC input/ output.

Would you consider purchasing a new one with an ARC/eARC HDMI input/output.

If you want to rule out any problems with the TV do you have another soundbar handy or perhaps

borrow one from a friend, relative or neighbour.

Thanks. That is quite a list of checks and tests with other equipment to do. I can work through them over a few days.

Sync worked perfectly with our old Panasonic plasma 3D 1080p TV.. That too used an optical connection to the sound bar.

Sorry.  The software is up-to-date and the TV is a SONY BRAVIA 8 55 inch OLED 4K HDR Smart TV - K55XR80PU.

@Windblown Try enabling the A/V sync from the settings, it synchronizes the audio and video of the TV: https://helpguide.sony.net/tv/laep1/v1/en/04-06_02.html?hl=a%2Fv

I started to work through your checklist. I started with the easiest, by removing the optical cable from the TV and then putting it back in.  We have had no sync problems for three days!  Could it really be that simple? I won't be trying anything else if things stay as they are.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks. I already tried that. It didn't work. However, see my latest response to Davey64.

@Windblown If possible, could you try to reset the soundbar settings?
