Hi all,
My sony FX3 camera started to show the following error/warning message after powering it on:"This accessory is not supported by the device and cannot be used. Please verify the compatibility with the device"
After pressing the button "ok" the message goes away and the camera can be used normally. It seems that the problem is related with the hot shoe. I have checked the connection with different sony lenses, original sony batteries and sd cards and they can be used without problems. So my guess is that the problem is related with hot shoe. I don't have the top handle with me at the moment or other compatible accessory with the hot shoe to be able to test it. I have inspected and cleaned the connectors with a cloth and dry swab and I cannot see any dirt and moisture.
Any suggestions? would you do something else or you would contact for an inspection and/or hot shoe replacement?
Thank you in advance
Iago
Actually it seems strange to me that the issue is on the hot shoe.
If there is nothing attached, why it should be responsible of the warning?
Have you used some hot shoe accessory in a wrong way to damage contacts?
This warning can happen in a large number of situation. If you are sure that you wave ever used genuine accessories, probably there is some contact that is not perfect.
It could be lens to body contacts, battery contacts, or some other on various connectors.
Thank you for your reply.
The reason why I think is the hot shoe is because all the 4 original sony batteries, sony sd cards and sony lenses are fully working, the contacts look clean and perfect to me. The only thing I cannot test at the moment is the hot shoe because I don't have any compatible accessory with me while I am travelling (I left the top handle at home). That's why I think this is the problem. The hot shoe contacts look clean and not damaged as far as my eye can see. And no, I haven't used any non compatible accessory on the hot shoe and I always had a plastic cover on top when I used the camera.
I guess the error message can just be temporary but I wanted to check with the community if someone has experienced the same problem and the possible solutions.
Thank you for your time
If you are travelling without the top slide cap, there is the possibility that moisture is entered.
The top cap is part of sealing system from dust and moisture. If you are travelling in raining places it’s a possibility.
If you suspect that it's the unit itself, it's better to contact Sony support directly before proceeding, maybe it's not a simple compatibility issue after all.
