Hello everyone.
I have recently purchased a second hand a5100 which still runs older firmware. I have tried to update it with latest firmware but the file I have downloaded is not compatible with MacOS Monterey. Therefore I can’t update my camera using my MacBook.
However I have noticed that firmware file for Windows is compatible with Win10. Is there any chance we can get a similar release for Monterey MacOS? Thanks.
Wouldn't it be easier to find a friend with a Windows computer who's willing to help you?
I will check, but I was hoping that since Sony keeps releasing firmware updates for Windows it would do the same for Mac users. Majority of photographers use Mac anyway!!
Hey there,
It seems that the Mac OS supported on versions: Mac OS X v.10.8 ~ 10.11: https://bit.ly/322jrBZ.
You can keep an eye on the website, maybe they try to add new versions in the future.
Cheers,
Wouldn't it be easier is Sony got its act together and created a simple firmware update procedure for Mac users and kept it up to date? Every other manufacturer has been doing this forever.
The manual is hopeless, especailly if you are using Big Sur (which involves a different process), an Apple M1 Mac (which involves changing pre-boot security settings on your Mac, something no one should ever have to do!), or Monetery (which isn't even supported. Sony's firmware update procedure is arcane for any user compared to any other major manufacturers. For Mac users it's Byzantine.
@Strampke the manual link you included in your reply refers to High Sieera, which is five macOS iterations old. The OP refers to the current iteration. Monterey, which was launched last October.
I know, I know.
Just hoping it might give you some clue.
