DSC-TX5 reset?

2 weeks out of warranty my beloved TX5 LCD screen suddenly went haywire. Yes, it has seen water (a light rain shower followed by a good drying off) but that was ages ago. The paint is peeling off as well, although I understand that Sony have issued a recall for this issue.

Unfortunately the warranty ran out in July and I've only just called the repair centre to enquire about repair. It seems that Sony honour the warranty 28 days after it's end date, so I'm out of luck.

As the repair cost would be almost as much as a new camera, I'll be in the market for a new model soon unless there is a way of performing a hard reset and some type of screen calibration.

Does anyone know of a reset sequence that might fix the LCD, or have I spent £300 on a camera that only lasted a year despite being "rugged"?

I'd love to stay with my Sony, please help!

Thanks,

Rob

Hello robertap - welcome to the Sony Forums

There is an option to reset to factory settings using the menu on the camera but there is no guarantee that this will fix the problem. When you say that the screen has gone 'haywire', what exactly is the problem that you are seeing?

Thanks,

Simon

Hi, thanks for the response.

If I try to tap/touch an on-screen button, the touch location is incorrect - like the screen is badly out of calibration. This is why I was hoping there was some hidden reset button as the LCD can't be used.

The button graphics slide on/off screen too far also, it's completely unusable.

With no help from the manufacturer I think I'll be switching to Canon now.

Hope I my A700 lasts longer than this TX5 did, or Sony will be loosing me as a DSLR customer too!
