TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN AT SONY INTERNATIONAL AND SOUTH AFRICA
ON THE 8TH OF December 2014 I purchased a Sony Ericsson D6603 from Cellucity at Clearwater, West Rand Johannesburg.
On the 20th of December while sitting with friends around the pool everybody was inquisitive to see this new technology phone that takes pictures under water. We decided to go on the internet and see what needed to be done as to make the process possible.
With the help of friends we read and followed the instructions step by step. I can get affidavits from the concerned people to justify my statement. We proceeded to go under water about 30cm deep for about 3 min just to take a photo and see what it looks like. According to the Sony advertisement in South Africa and the website that we visited it was mentioned that the phone can go as deep as 1m and for at least 30 minutes. After taking the picture I proceeded to dry the phone as mentioned in the Xperia Care website and went for a swim.
I have a letter from the resort that I was at where they state that the pool is maintained with pool cleaners and is not a salt pool. As specified on the website.
After my swim of about 20min I tried to unlock the phone ( it was not with me in the pool while I was swimming) but the screen did not want to work at all. After about an hour and making sure that it was once again tapped dry the phone was completely dead and did not go on at all. Needless to say my witnessed were not impressed with what has been advertised that the phone is capable of doing.
The next morning the phone went on but the screen was still not working.
I then took the phone back to Cellucity in Johannesburg.
Date of phone handed in 21st December 2014 at Cellucity Johannesburg. I was told that they would send the phone away and that I would have news back in 7-10 days.
On 24th December 2014 I phoned and they told me at Cellucity that they had send the fone away and were waiting for report.
On 27th of December 2014 I went back to Cellucity and was told that due to the public holidays over the holiday season they still had no news to give me about the phone.
On 31st December 2014 went back to Cellucity again and once again was told that the Vodcacom repair centre where t they had sent the phone for repairs was delaying as a result of the public holidays.
Went back again to Cellucity on 3rd January 2015 as they never phoned me with any news and they told me that they should have news by then. Once again they had no news but were expecting anytime to hear from Vodacare of something.
Finally on the 5th of January 2015 16 days after the phone had been given in for the first time at Cellucity, we heard that they at Vodacare could not fix the phone as there was water damage…. Well im not being funny I could have told them the same the point is after following all the instructions given on how to go about submerging the phone with witnesses the phone still got water damaged. They would have to send the phone directly to Sony for assessment.
Once again I started the processes of going backwards and forwards to cellucity to find out what was happening to the phone. On the 9th for some unknown reason to me when I went back to find out what the news were I was told that they still had not sent the phone to Sony.
On 18th January 2015 I was told after going once again to Cellucity Johannesburg that the phone was not back from Sony yet and that they were waiting for report.
Finally on the 20th I get a phone call telling me that Sony has let them know….. guess what…. That there is water marks in the phone… hummmm I think that that was the main reason why I took the phone in in the first instance….
I have paid for the whole month on this contract and had the pleasure of using the phone for only 12 days. I do not accept that the worksman say there is water in the phone as that was right from the beginning obvious to me. I am an adult person and can come to that conclusion without having to open the phone. The problem comes when there is being advertised that the phone is able to go under water and take pictures even small videos but I after following all the rules did not successeed. I am at all not happy and consider this false advertising from the part of Sony, Vodacom and Cellucity.
I took the fone also to SSS Cellular and guess what they say??? Water damage from the port where the Vodacom attendant inserted the sim card. But then again I already knew that.
I would like to know if Sony is going to replace my fone and I promise I will not take it under water again. I am still paying for this fone as it is a 24mnth contract.
Thank you.

Sorry to hear this but you would need to contact Xperia care as this is a user led forum and as such we are unable to say how Sony handles issues and nor do we have influence over Sony to have them do things http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/
