Z3 compact battery draining quickly since last week

Hi guys.

since last week my.z3c's battery is draining much faster than before. It used to last 1.5 days and now only last half a day with the same usage, using same apps.

It also heats up with normal usage which is something new and quite concerning.

Any pointers on what I should do to troubleshoot?

Charge your phone and boot on safe mode and check how your battery behaves.

1. press and hold the power key
2. once you get the pop up menu 
3. press and hold "power off" 
4. Boot on safe mode should become available

Im on Android 5.1.1. Been on it for a while now but only last week the mobile is behaving like this.

Top consuming apps

Android core apps - dont remember seeing this so far up the list

Outlook

Messenger

Chrome

Spotify

I will try the safe mode tomorrow. What does it limites though?

No problem. It could just be an app miss behaving causing the battery to drain faster. In safemode your phone should work the same just without all the third-party app downloaded. This way if you don't see any problems with battery drain. Then the culprit most likely is a third-party app.

Same problem here.

I used to be so happy with my brand new Xperia when I got it 2 months ago. With average use I could go 2 days without recharging.

After the update to Android Lollipop 5.1.1 my battery is on 0% before my working day is over.

I found that this is a known issue that Google know about.

Hi guys,

Just to update on my end.

Today I started the day by setting to phone to Safe Mode with a full charge.

By the end of my working day. 5.30pm

Battery is at 47%

Yesterday it was at 10%

I tried to use the phone the same way I was doing. So today I used Music(as oposed to spotify offline) and Facebook (via chrome) to chat while on the bus (about 1 hour).

So... a big improvement I would say. BUT....

I still noticed the phone warming up, I think it is when the display is on. I still think this is not normal. It is the kind of temperature you get when you use the camera.

I'm going home now and I will try to leave the display on as much as I can and report back how it went.

A couple of notes:

In safe mode android core apps seems to be consuming a lot less.

Google play services now appears on the list. Dont remember seeing it yesterday.

Update.

first day off safe mode and the mobile is surprisingly back to "normal"ish.

Battery seems to last much longer.

Notes:

I had swittched off auto-updates when I first spottted the issue.

Yesterday I have updated a number of apps: Including FB messenger which was one of the top consuming apps.

Also notice that today Google Core Apps. (top consuming app before) is not even on the list now.

Can't really tell what is going on but I will keep monitoring.
