Xperia Z will not charge when device is OFF

Hi guys,

I got this after updating the firmware of the device. The device would not charge no matter what I do (plug it from the included wall adaptor or USB sockets from the computer). It will charge normally if the device is on but if I turn it off it won't charge at all! No light, no nothing

Please help.

I updated using PCC and tried to repair the update using Sony update service. I have tried factory resetting my phone. This feature worked because I charged it fully before I opened my phone for the first time.

Sorry for posting on a fairly old thread, but I just thought I would have some input. I actually have an xperia T with the same problem, I have took it back to carphone warehouse before because of this issue but now it's actually happened again and I had just given up for a while, but I have recently rooted and tried reflashing my kernal, system and installing cwm, but even that seemed to have no effect, however I can't comment on other kernals as I still have my bootloader locked, so I have no idea what's causing the problem, but since Sony managed to fix it when I sent off repair they managed to fix it so it would be nice if they could tell us how they did it because I'm quite confident with android (have rooted and modified several android phones)

Sorry for hijacking - I'm wondering if the issue with my phone is related.  My ZL will only turn on and work while it's plugged in, even though it's displaying a full battery.  Once unplugged, it will shut right off (the display just goes black) I've updated to the latest firmware though, so is there a way to calibrate the battery (or get it to display correctly, if that's the issue?)

I have an Xperia E and the same problem. Although not quite the same:

1. The charger that came with the phone currently doesn't work at all. Sometimes it will charge, but rarely.

2. I can usually charge from computer USB, but not always. Maybe it works better when the battery isn't entirely empty, as described in this thread.

3. I can always charge from a generic laptop adapter which I bought . One of these things with a lot of exchangeble plugs, and it also has a USB power port. This also charges very fast.

Phone on or off seems to make no difference.

So - the original Sony charger works worst, and my pirate adapter works best.

I suspect the phone needs a certain current strength to recognize/approve the charger, and that my generic laptop adapter delivers the strongest current of these three.

But it's really odd that the original Sony charger doesn't work. So obviously this is a fault. Sony owns us an explanation whether this is a hardware or system issue - hopefully a system update could do the work.
