Xperia Z wi-fi issues

I have had my Xperia Z for the last day or so now, bought SIM free and unlocked here in the UK. I have been experiencing significant wi-fi issues as in that the wi-fi signal is quite poor and keeps dropping and the phone either goes to mobile internet or keeps hunting for alternate wi-fi networks. This is at the same spot where my Macbook, my old HTC One X and my Asus Transformer Pad Infinity all have a strong, reliable and uninterrupted wi-fi signal. The router is only about 10-15 feet away in the adjacent room and I have tried using both 2.4 and 5ghz frequencies.

Has anyone else had similar problems? I wonder if I should consider getting a replacement as this might be a faulty handset.

Fine on mine - no idea on a fix though, sorry.

Hi,

My 1st phone from 3 was showing me -10db down in power, on WiFi analyser, compared with my Nexus 7 from the same location. I swapped it out because of 5Ghz WiFi problems. The replacement shows the same power levels as the Nexus.

Just out of interest did you manage to connect at 5Ghz, because mine still doesn't see my router when the router is set to 5ghz. If so, could you tell me what channel it connected on. Thanks.

hi, im having different wifi issues.

I'm getting frequent wifi drops in my home (netgear router, wpa psk security) and its also affecting other devices in the house! Other wifi networks I've connected to seem to be fine, no issues whatsoever. Sometimes it'll say its connected, but no data, other times it will disconnect entirely.

This is a VERY strange problem and the fact that its affecting the wifi connection to other devices is even stranger. It seems like the router is resetting. It connects to another router with no problems. The router in question is a netgear DG834G

I'm having very minimal WiFi issues, when using it on it's own, it's seemed to be pretty reliable.

HOWEVER, when using WiFi in combination with Bluetooth, I'm experiencing problems, which I have documented here;

http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/436003#436003

The two won't hold up together under any real usage over any length of time, 4 to 10 minutes seems to be the average length of time I get before WiFi drops.

And this morning, the phone just blacked out and reset, no sooner than 4 minutes into a song while browsing the web.

I am having wifi issues too, no relation to bluetooth, it drops out on its own and doesn't reconnect untill you do it manually. I am not using stamina mode at the moment.

I also had wifi issues at home last weekend, but never thought they could be connected, but from what I read above it may require some further testing.

I had some issues with Wife on my Xperia Z. It could drop or get slow.

I enabled 5GHz on my Asus RT-56U router, after that thw wifi is stable and very fast on XZ. There is quite a lot on other networks on 2.4GHz but no other networks on 5GHz. So Ill guess people dont know about using 5GHz-band on the routers. Now I think my Z is maximizing my internet connection at 30Mbit.

Could be worth a try.
