Xperia Z dead

I've nnly had my Xperia Z a day and it's totally dead. I had a full charge last time I looked and was using it about 5 minutes ago. No reaction trying to turn it back on (holding the power button for 10 seconds etc). I don't have a memory card in - just the micro-sim.

Anyone had the same? any suggestions?

Got my xperia z yesterday. Everything was fine till the morning. Tried turning on and didn't do anything. No light when plugged charger in as well. Had to hold volume and power button for 10secs. Then happened again in the afternoon. thats twice today.

Both times where on standby. not while using the phone.

I dont have many apps installed as well and no widgets installed. Only default sony widgets.

Hasnt sony said anything yet about this problem.

Is it software or hardware problem?

I had the same problem within 4 daysa of buying. Completely dead, brought it back to store and they showed me how to reset, only died once since then but hopefully it's an issue that will work itself out.

It seems the brand new Xperia Z is suffering from similar problems as the Xperia V, which was only released in December 2012. Is it possible then that either Sony is incapable of producing technically advanced phones that have been checked and work properly, free of bugs and battery problems? It certainly seems so.

Check out the problems with the Xperia V on the following link, particularly the 'Random freeze in Standby' issues (often referred to as 'SOD' or 'Sleep of Death'), for which there is still no solution (finally now confirmed after over a month and a long-term campaign to force SOny to reply to its customers).

If you get no joy from Sony Mobile here then try 'direct messaging' then on the Sony Mobile Facebook page for your own country, and get a refernce number and the name of the person you speak to. Keep a record of all communication with the company.

If that doesn't work and Sony will not refund your money for another sub-standard product then I suggest you send a copy of everything to various Tech and mobile phone magazines and ask themn to take up the case for you. Sony will not do this as they wish to keep problems quiet (on here) and away from the attention of the public and media, so you may have to force their hand! Try things like GSM Arena, CNet, TechCrunch, What Mobile, Mobile Gazette, Mobile Choice, and any others you can find (do a search for 'mobile phones' on Twitter for instance).

Frankly I would insist on your money back if your phone does not work without problems. The Xperia Z is after all a new phone and Sony's flagship. Good luck... I think you are going to need it!

I called Sony up and told them the problem and me mentioned this thread which they had a look at.  They said best thing to do is remove memory card and try as could be dodgy memory card.  Sony also said only class 2 and 4 memory cards can be used with the phone.  If this does not solve the problem then hard reset phone and I stall bare minimum apps and see how it goes as it could be dodgy app.

Worth a try.

I'll think of buying when XZ hits 25/26K on ebay. Their prirces sink faster as they are way overpriced for the HW that they come out with. Let's see how the prices of XZ hold after S4 launch. I am expecting XZ to hit 26K range around August/Sept basically fall @2k/month till it reaches 26k

Sony takes pride in Good HW with a bad SW implementation so comapred to Samsung their phones become overpriced. Sony forgets that Android buyers are not like iPhone buyers ... Android buyers are very smart with their MONEY Slightly_smiling_Face

It can not be SD card. My phone has card installed and no problem at all. But my girlfriend phone doesnt have any sd and it died 3 times. But now is all fine. I removed quadrant from it and screen lock app.

So its possible that it was the apps you removed which could of been causing  the problem.

Maybe. If it crash again I will post here. The think is I have got this 2 apps installed and no problems at all. Hope they give us 4.2.2 bugs free. Go go SONY

I will be hard resetting my phone tomorow and will only install bare minimum apps and see what happens.

It seems like its a temporary short term problem untill the battery gets used to full capacity (just a thought)

Took out sd card from yesterday and hasn't gone dead since.  Could be a coincidence.   There are more users having this same problem on xda forums.  Just search on Google xperia gone dead and click on first link.
