All SP owners please check this in your phone as well.
I'm having problems with my sp's display when the phone is kept on horizontal surface.
In the video, phone is kept on the bed and i'm trying to use it. But you can see the screen just misses the touch 😕 I wonder why.
This only happens when the phone is kept horizontally.
Ps: screen guard is not the problem since I checked with 2 different guards and phone works perfectly in hands.
PS2 > The screen works fine while phone is put to charging.
I'm aslo facing same problem with my Xperia SP, it simply stop responding while placed horizontally.
Another problem that I found is, sometimes (as of now twice) touch is not working at all. I cannot receive the call, cannot reboot as well. This looks to be junk device from Sony.
Welcome! I have the same problem with my Xperia SP, it simply stops responding. I have the German version.
Xperia SP
Modell: C5303
Android 4.12
Baseband-Version: 8960A-AAAAATAZQ-40031007-06
Build: 12.0.A.1.257
It seems that the touchscreen does not react, only after trying several times...
Sony, please send an update soon!!!
Have now got my phone back last night from being repaired for a 2nd time & so far it all looks to be ok.
No idea what has been done to it so will be phoning Carphone Warehouse later to find out.
Model number - C5303
Firmware - 12.0.A.1.257 (don't know what version it was before I sent it away).
Here's hoping that this is the end of the problem.
please update your phone to .257 build version, it'll help a lot. In this update, horizontal type problem will vanish, but problem still occurs sometimes when you will connect it with USB cable through laptop.

@mukluv My phone is running on the .257 update & guess what, I've now got the issue back again!!
I'm starting to feel sick about this now as it's been away for a repair twice (only software repair) & hasn't been fixed. I'm now way outside the exchange period at EE so can't see me getting it changed.
Why aren't Sony doing anything about this???????
I have these touch screen problems only when put to charger in wall socket. Charging from computer USB port doesn't cause any problems.
I tried different wall sockets in different building and two different Sony charger, but the issues appear every time. But charging with Nokia Lumia charger, the touchscreen works fine!
I can confirm that this problem exist in FW 12.0.A.2.245. Haven't done a repair though but I think it wont help as usual
I guess its not EXACTLY a problem or bug. xperia sp has capacitive touch screen. Our finger and the screen acts as two plates of a capacitor, as we are highly charged against the screen. The change in capacitance is detected and thus your input is detected. But since you are not touching the metal case, your body is not sharing a common ground. And every input you give to the screen is an external source of charged body, like ESD. Most of the latest ICs reject such inputs, considering them as esd. But by the software caliberation done by some people, the sensitivity is just increased. Thats why it sometime works & sometime doesn't work. Any software caliberation, restart, factory reset, etc. causes to reset the screen sensitivity. Its really a mater of electrostatic charge. These are only my guess. Those who still have this problem can try some ideas.
1. Use a RUBBER touch pen which are less pointier instead of your finger.
2. Place the device in a wooden table and try to use it by both touch pen & finger.
3. Place the device in a metal plate which is completely GROUNDED and try to use it by both touch pen & finger.
4. Touch the metal case and use a RUBBER touch pen instead of fingers and see if it works.
You can try this and share your experience. It may conclude something...
Same problem with my XSP, want to throw this phone to wall. 😕
