Wrong hues on Z1 Compact

Just got my new Z1 Compact.

Right from the start I noticed that familiar pictures look decidedly different on this phone than on my HTC One S, or indeed on any other devide (pc, tablet).

Every color has a different hue. Mostly more washed out than usual. So that orange mostly turns into yellow, unless it's a very deep orange.

(Being Dutch, and with the World Cup coming up, having a yellowish orange hue instead of pure orange is a very bad thing indeed...)

I was wondering if this is a common know 'problem' with this screen. And whether there 's anything to do about it...

(Changing the white balance doesn't alter much.)

Thank you!

Eric

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I don't know which display panel that's being used in the HTC phone you're comparing with but its normal to experience differences in brightness, saturation and colors between devices.

i set the white balance to R24, G12, B126

seems better

The yellow cast drives me nuts. I have a calibrator (spyder) but the app does not work on KitKat - as many other things Slightly_frowning_Face

switch off the adapt to lightning conditions in brightness for a better check.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand and accept that there will always be minor differences between screens. But in this case, light orange is always turned into yellow. Like for instance the logo of Soundhound, which is bright yellow on my screen, and like in the example I showed in my post. It's simply a completely different color.

Since I occasionally have to check design proposals on the go, I'd like it if I would have a pretty good idea about how a certain pdf looks, instead of having to guess...

But if I understand you correctly, this problem occurs in every other Z1 Compact?

@ratacit:

Thanks! Interesting that you adjusted the white balance heavily in favor of blue, because I did exactly the opposite. I found the stock balance way too cool and put a lot more red and green in it. I'll try your settings as well, though.

And yes, I was wondering if there was an app to manually calibrate the colors, but I didn't find a good one.

To calibrate you don't need only the app but the calibrator sensor as well. I have this but unfortunately the app does not work on kitkat.
