Will not connect properly to Mobile Network

I have have the Xperia Ion from a well over a year now and I am getting frustrated with some wierd behaviour.  Every once and a while I get no bars (with an X) even though I should have access and husband (with a different phone) is on the same network and has full bars.  It seems to be random.  It will happen sometimes when I am even using my phone.  I will lose all mobile connectivity, but I can still connect to a WiFi network. 

My phone is set to automatically search for networks already, but the only way that I have been able to fix it is to go and manually force it to look for the WIND network. Sometimes that won't even work. 

Any suggestions on what I can do?

Model Number is LT28i on Android 4.0.4.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

That sounds quite strange. First of all you can try to change the network mode under settings > more > mobile network > network mode. 

If you still experience the same behavior in different network modes I suggest that you try to put in another SIM card in your phone.
