Why there is no Xperia Play Updates?

Hi!! I’m really disappointed with Sony and I would like to share, once I’m sure I’m not the only one!!

I’m a hardcore gamer and I always got sony gaming products. PSX, PS2, PS3, PSP and Vita.

In 2011 I got a xperia play! I read in several places that sony will not update the android version of this phone. However, there’s a lot of applications that requires android 4.0 or up, and the only thing that I found was an Beta version!!

I truly feel awful because of that and I regret buying this “gamer” Smartphone!!

I was always a faithful costumer and I’d like to know what Sony has to say about it!?

none of the 2011 Xperias will get any other updates as it has been more than 18months, as far as the Xperia Play running 2.3.4 instead of 4.0 well there were many games that weren't working properly with ICS and the Xperia Play that's why it wasn't released. 

Your options are 

1) Install the Beta firmware 

or 

2) a custom ROM

Custom firmware!? Is it even safe!?

That’s why I ‘m disappointed!! It look’s like Sony doesn’t care!!

I was fooled by Sony spectacular publicity about this product. Unbelievable!!

An faithful client fooled by it’s “worshiped” company.

Mr. uliwooly, I thank you for your answer, but that’s not the case!

I’m just saying that Sony was disrespectful with its customers, and I fell it more than anyone, since I always defended Sony as the best company of technological stuff. I don’t know if it’s an official Sony forum or not, but I had to say that!!

Xperia Play is doomed!! Do never, I repeat, do NEVER buy it!! It’ VERY expensive for a device that has find it’s dead on Android 2.3 version.

My solution now is not an beta version or a custom rom. Is to sell it for someone that do not care about its android version and, for now on, just buy smartphones from Samsung.

That’s it!

Ps. You can lock the topic if you want!! I just ask that you don’t erase what I wrote, cause I’m feeling disrespected and I want to show it! Doing that will make me fell worst than I’m feeling right now! Thank you!

I doubt anyone will delete this thread, there are others alike, I'm a bit surprised that you just read that the Xperia Play is not going to receive any other updates.

Now, we are happy to confirm that the remaining 2011 smartphones; Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will start to receive their updates starting from next week.*

This software upgrade will be Android version 4.0.4 and the good news is that this latest version will also be made available for Xperia arc S, Xperia ray and Xperia neo V users, who received Android 4.0.3 the first time around.

In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY.

This decision was also verified when we received similar feedback from the developer community; both experienced developers and advanced users, along with game content providers following our ICS beta ROM for unlocked Xperia PLAY smartphones.

Our priority has and always will be, to provide the best possible user experience on Xperia smartphones. In this instance the ICS upgrade would have compromised stability, where we look to ensure a quality gaming experience with games optimized and developed for Xperia PLAY.

That’s ridiculously pitiful!! I just can’t accept that once it’s toooooo expansive!!

If Sony got the conclusion that the Xperia play won’t work properly with new updates, they should drop the price!! In Brazil it costs about R$ 1600,00. In dollar it’s about U$ 695,65. It’s almost the same price of a super top smartphone!!

That’s what I’m saying!! As a dated smartphne, it should have a fair cost at least!

And this information is not new a new one for me!! I read it in the beginning of 2013, but, as a faithful costumer, I was hopping (and believing), that Sony would bring some sort of solution.

But in the end I realized that the Xperia Play owners were all disrespected, and nothing will change this fact.
