Using restricted wifi and unable to use whatsapp

Greetings All

We have free wifi for mobile devices at our workplace.  The only problem is that they've restricted the use of Whatsapp.  (I'm reluctant to be without it for 9 hours a day since it's my main communication tool with my children).  I heard there's a way of changing a setting for whatsapp on your phone that if it can't come through on wifi, then it will automatically switch to your data and messages will be transmitted this way.  Anyone know anything about this?

As far as I know, the only solution that you have is to use mobile data if there are restrictions at the Wi-Fi network. There are no specific settings in the phone to alloW this when the network configuration itself is restricted. If you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, the phone will always perfer this connection and I have not seen that an app can "by-pass" or similar to always use the mobile data while the phone is connected to Wi-Fi.
