T2 Ultra only charges in fastboot mode

My Xperia T2 Ultra phone is one of the many plagued by battery charging issues. Because I bought it while traveling in the US, customer support is basically non-existent. (I fail to see the logic of that but that's apparently one of the ways Sony is screwing its customers.)

I discovered that the phone can still charge when it is in fastboot mode. This basically means that the hardware is still functioning properly but that the charging issue is due to a software bug. I've upgraded to firmware_19.3.A.0.472 but the problem is still present. does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

That didn't fix the problem. The symptoms are exactly the same after the update with PC companion.

So, to be more specific: I'm currently back home in Belgium with no hope for support for a device bought in the US. Does anyone have suggestions for getting the device repaired?

I also noticed that the device charges briefly before the Sony and Xperia logos appear. When in fastboot mode, it only charges up to 36%, not further, no matter how long it charges.

A final odd thing is that the device is only recognized by my computer when in fastboot or flash mode. These are the devices listed by lsusb under Linux:

* flash mode:

Bus 001 Device 009: ID 0fce:adde Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB C2005 (Xperia M dual) in service mode

* fastboot mode:

Shouldn't it also be a valid USB device when simply powered on?
