That´s not true!

Xperia S and QX10 and QX100 have NFC.

I tried with an QX100 and it works!

The QX series support any device that can install PlayMemories App...

I own the QX-100 and I use it with my Xperia Acro S. It works great. NFC is not needed but it is much more easier to connect this way.

I highly recommend QX cameras for taking pictures when traveling (I recently took over 900 pics on a trip to Argentina with it).

Its only weaknesses are:

1) when you take pictures of moving subjects in low light (party, clubs, etc)

2) when you need to take a quick shot...

The first issue has a partial solution, and it is to take pictures with high 12800 ISO, and choosing speed/aperture appropriately, so I recommend learning a little bit of photography (I consider myself an enthusiastic amateur).

The second one is trickier, since you can either take the picture blindly (without using the phone) and hope the picture turned out fine... that's why I always turn the camera mode back to Superior Auto before disconnecting the phone, so I can take better blind pictures if needed.

But if you know that you have enough time (up to 20 seconds), you can whip your phone out and touch the camera with the NFC sensor and wait for the connecting to make before taking the first pic.

Conclusion:

Not for entirely professional use

Not for people without interest of learning about basic photography (ISO, Focus, Exposure, White Balance, Metering, etc)

NOT a GoPro replacement 😉

But definitely awesome for taking GREAT pictures of Landscapes, Family Reunions, Low Light were Flash is not needed or permited, etc.

PS: it last around 125 pictures with mixed use (mostly connecting and disconnecting phone, and some blind shots). My settings were 20MP 3:2 pics, and always copying 2MP pics to my phone for reviewing purposes.
