@ashishsingh007's suggestions are great, if your phone has a protective case and/or protective film that could be the culprit.
Thank you for your reply and I appreciate your help. Removing the protective film did help for a while but now the problem has returned. I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer my query.

Hi there. Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to contact me. I've tried everything possible on this handset. I've recently upgraded from Xperia Z3-Xperia Z5. The way this is going I'll be going back to the Z3 very quickly. The PC Companion won't even recognise the Z5 on any PC....not just mine.. But thank you again. I truly appreciate your reply.
