Not charging text when connecting charger

When I connect a genuine Sony USB cable the text on the battery options screen changes from discharging to not charging. Obviously the phone does not charge then but it does recognize it is being connected.

This happens when connecting to the computer as well as to the normal electric charger. I use two different Sony cables and it happens with both.

Turning the phone off and on again seems to rectify the problem but it's getting annoying having to do that half the time I want to charge the phone.

That's very strange. If you have Xperia T, try holding on/off and vol+ at the same time for 10 seconds and see if that helps. If you have the Xperia TX, try removing and reinserting the battery.

If this doesn't help, try repairing the phones software using PC Companion.

Thanks for the reply.

I have a Xperia T.

I did the volume up and power button and the phone rebooted.

I already used the Sony Ericsson update service a few weeks back.

As far as I know this is a factory reset more powerfull then the factory reset option on the phone.

It should redownload and install the latest firmware. It seems to be the same as the repiar function on PC companion.

I wll report back if the issue is not solved.

Seems the problem is still there. I just connected the phone to a  charger (and then another) and again got the "not charging" message. Had to reboot.

I would recommend that you take both the phone, cable and charger to one of our service locations for furter investigation and repairs. If you need information on your nearest service location you can contact your local support for more information: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/

I can't take my phone directly to a "service location" in my country (the Netherlands)

I have to go to a store, who will send it to Sony repair. Which doesn't sound like a problem but it is.

The issue is, if my phone is not faulty, or the problem does not fall under warranty, (EVERY store, I got this info directly from Sony support in my country) will charge me between 40 and 50 euros for sending the phone in.

I can not directly send a phone to Sony repair. I can not get directly in contact with the Sony repair department even if I call support. If I call support to ask if this issue falls under warranty they can't tell me. "The reapir department can only make this assesment if the phone is send in"

If the problem remains after you made a repair in PC Companion this must be a hardware problem so i can only advise that you contact your dealer to have the phone and charger sent in.

Regarding service fee it is possible that they will charge you if they for example find that your phone has been exposed to water or similar.

Thank you Rickard for the support, it is appreciated.
