Hello.
I am facing a certain problem with the SE version of Android.
The problem is apparently known as a bug, but somehow i lost the link to the forum.
I bought this new phone off ebay, and imported contacts from my laptop by way of vcf file (saved from an older SE smart phone.)
In SE Andriod phones, the default owner has a myself contact in the Contacts list.
When I imported the contacts, it somehow populated my friends number there (under myself contact). out of 600 numbers.
Ideally it should be vacant till the time i customise/modify it.
I cannot edit the number . I can add more to the myself contact, but simply cannot remove the problem number.
In order to remedy the situation, i accidnetally also got my phone locked but managed to recover it.
Please help, as this is very annoying.
Seems I borrowed the phone from someone!

I believe this number is stored on the sim as I remember mine was blank. You can change it if you know someone with an iPhone as you can edit it in the settings. Is it the one that appears in the Settings -> About Phone -> Status -> My Phone Number? Then the iPhone was how I changed mine. Sorry I can't help more than that...

what if you transfer your contacts to Gmail then you can edit them there (on your computer)
Contacts
just to play it safe sync your contacts w/ google if you haven't already
open your phonebook
press MENU button -> tap on Send Contacts -> select all -> send it to your email
on your computer
-> download the file -> go to your gmail -> click on contacts -> click on more actions -> on the drop down menu click on "import" -> choose the file -> and click import
since you already have the vcf file, just follow from "on your computer"
btw is that your own SIM card or someone else's ?
just take the SIM card out and do a factory reset
Thanks Happy!
Andriod, somehow locks the "My Phone number " concept.
As satted earlier, I cannot edit it from contacts or settings.
Wooly,
Funny question? Yes this is my SIM
I tried taking out the SIM but it locks the phone, and and one has to struggle to get it unlocked.
Gmail was never involved in the import/export of the contact.
Just a vcf file with all my contacts was moved tomy laptop via bluetooth from the oldphone.
And via bluetooth got it on the new phone.
Thereafter the vcf got extracted and I see this number.
Again, this is not an unidentified number, but it belongs to a freind of mine.

I read this in a blog somwhere, and this is a bug. Many people have faced this.
since you just got your phone, use Update Service (SEUS) to repair/update your phone, that will delete everything in that phone, anything on the SD will be unchanged
(SEUS)

also go to settings -> about phone -> check the
Android version and the Build number
build versiion 4.0.A.2.335
android version 2.3.3
It's a little over two weeks, so yes, i have messages and call info i hate to lose by wiping out.
