My wife purchased a Sony Ericsson LiveView Phone Remote for me for Christmas to use with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
I have successfully been able to install the LiveWare Manager & the LiveView Application apps from the Android Market. I have also been able to successfully connect the LiveView to my phone. I've installed two additional plug-ins (Pansar LiveView & SimpleGmail) that are shown as installed in the LiveWare Manager. However, in the LiveView Application, they do not show up under the Manage Plug-ins screen. I have installed all these apps and connected my LiveView to my Nexus One running Gingerbread to test, and it showed the plug-ins in the Manage Plug-ins screen. Is there a way to get plug-ins working on Ice Cream Sandwich?
When Selecting a music player, the option does not appear for the "Android generic music player". The only option available is the "Media button emulation". Is support for the new Music player coming? The Media Button Emulation works with controlling whatever media player is active, though only the default music player seems to show what is playing on the LiveView screen (at least Rhapsody didn't show the name of the song in my test).
The Calendar does not show notifcations that I can tell. I tested it with an event and my phone chimed the Calendar alert, but it never appeared on the LiveView. Is that how the Calendar notifications are supposed to work?
Most of the other features work with the Galaxy Nexus, like Find Phone and Text Messages. Is support coming for the Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich? It appears the hardware works fine, there are just a few software issues with the LiveView Application.
I hardly doubt SE will release an update on that, since they (sony ericsson) won't release ICS until march for some Xperias and late April for the rest (MAY)
Also not being able to see the plugins in ICS. Suppose to be only a problem with the LiveView Application. As many apps wich have been reviewed with ICS this needs a review. Would be a wrong move only wait for SE ICS updates and forgot who uses Liveview with other brands already using ICS! Besides the plugins installed but not found, I've not being able to work with calendar. So I beg you to update the app to full compatibility with ICS, please!
I have the same problem on a Galaxy SII with ICS, no plugins visibles on Liveview Application, there are just in the LiveWare Manager... When do you think the Liveview Application will be updated ?
Here is the non-reply I got from Sony Ericsson yesterday from a message I sent on December 25th:
Sony Ericsson wrote:
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Xperia™ Support.
In regards to your inquiry, Sony Ericsson does not guarantee 100% compatibility with all third party devices and software. If you use one of our products with a device manufactured by another company, you may encounter certain features that do not work well together, or have less than perfect performance. This does not mean that either device is defective. It may possibly be a compatibility issue.
Now this is not going to help much but if you consider that the Liveview has only had 1 update in 18 months and SE have not tried to fix the problems on the phones it was advertised to work with i really wouldnt hope for any fixes now for ICS
i managed to use mine for approx 4 weeks in total out of 8 months and each time i tried it got so frustrated that i gave up.
i cant see anyway that it will ever be updated again they have binned the project
Whilst I understand everyone’s frustration here, please be patient and wait until we have launched ICS for our handsets before jumping to a conclusion. As outlined by Unliwooly it is unlikely that you would see such and update before we even have the version of OS out ourselves.
sorry Sam but you must remember that the Liveview still is not working Properly on any non SE phone and some SE Phones and thats not been sorted in over a year so you must be able to understand the frustration , Ive tried everything even resorting to buying another App that claims to improve the connection and i cant say in the 8 months ive owned it that ive been able to use it properly
Very sad that SE has become so reactionary.
Unfortunately there was nothing comparable to LV.
In the future I will not spend money on new hardware SE (or the Sony Live View V2) waste, if there are alternatives. (I'm watch looks great, but you can not buy it.)
If it would work, as advertised, it would probably be a huge success. Now it is even after many months of waiting for a new LV software still electronic waste. Especially since we have ICS on our phones.
Very sad that SE makes its customers so annoying.
No one will buy Sony Live View V2 when it is not compatible with ICS.
I was one of the first who would buy it if LV V1 would be good.
I have the same problem with my Galaxy S2 on ICS, SE advertise that Liveview works with android 2.0 and above which is incorrect at the moment, SE need to issue a statement or fix the app
