Is a microSDXC memory card supported on my model?

Hi,

I will be receiving my Xperia Tablet Z 32GB Wi-Fi, model SGP312GB/B.CEK, on Tuesday and can't wait. Slightly_smiling_Face

On the Sony specifications page, linked below, it says:

[-- http://www.sony.co.uk/product/xperia-tablet-z/tab/editorialarticle1 --]

Supported SD memory card: microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC

The microSDXC entry in the list has a 'notes' entry which says: On selected models.

I can't seem to find anywhere where it says if my model supports SDXC or not. Since I want to buy a 64GB microSDXC card specifically for the tablet, and don't already have one to test with, I was wondering if anyone call tell me if it is compatible or how to find out.

Thanks.

I bought a "Samsung 64GB Class 10 UHS-1 Grade 1 70MB/s MicroSDXC Pro Memory Card" and I have a model: SGP312 (UK, 32gb wifi only)

Works fine !

Great and thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Is this the one?

The one below comes with an adapter, do I need the adapter for the Xperia? I am getting the same Xperia Tablet model as you. [I've never used Micro SD Cards of any type before.]

Thanks again.

I bought what looks like the second link you posted.

You don't need the adapter for the tablet but you will if you want to put it in a laptop etc

Just put it in and let the tablet do it's thing!

SanDisk microSDXC 64GB worked, but formated to FAT32.

OP here...

I ended up buying a "SanDisk Ultra Android 64GB MicroSDXC Class 10 Bi-coloured Card with Adapter", which is working fine. I connected it to my PC with my USB card reader and formatted it to EXT4, stupidly thinking that since Android is built on Linux, EXT4 would be supported, it is not, but once the Micro SD card was in (eventually, it is tricky) the info panel said the file system was not supported and offered to format the card which it did sucessfully.

I have just been notified by Sony tech support that the Xperia Z tablet has only been tested on Class 4 Micro SD cards and they cannot provide support on the use of Class 10 cards.

I have tried and failed to play movies through my card, it will not store anymore than 4 movie files and I cannot move apps to the external device. I have formatted it to FAT32 as people seem to recomend.

Sony have offered a full refund as their website description is inaccurate. I'm very disappointed in Sony.

BigCol4, My SD card is a Class 10 (see link in post above yours) and it works fine. I have about 20 movies on it which I copied to test a variety of movie file formats. All play with VLC. I originally formatted the card to EXT4 (via my Linux PC) which did not work but I re-formatted it on the Xperia and after that it worked. Also some of the movies are greater than 4 GB so whatever format the Xperia used to format the card does not have the 4 GB file size limit. I suggest you reformat the card in your Xperia and see if that works. You can find the format SD card settings somewhere in settings, can't remember where. HTH.

Thank you Mattst,

I had initially reformatted the card (can't remember it's original format) through the Xperia and it seemed to work. I could put loads of music and pictures onto it and they work great.

I can put a maximum of 4 movie files onto it, all of which will play no problem through VLC player and the standard Movie player but if I put anymore than 4 movie files on they won't play. They show up as having a duration of 0.00 in VLC player and the standard movie player simply states it cannot play them.

I've just reset the Xperia and will try to reformat the card.

I don't understand it at all.
