Backspace function configuration

I bought a Xperia SP with Andorid 4.1 and my backspace function use to delete the whole word when I press it.

After an update to 4.3, this function was removed and now the deletion of the whole word doesn't work anymore: it is deleting letter by letter even if i HOLD backspace.

I'm not sure why Google removed such as great functionality from the OS and I was wondering if there is a possibility to have it back: writing whitout it is being a painful task...

Anyone knows how to solve this, or even it there is a way to fix it?

Thanks!

You can use third party keyboards. I am using touchpal x right now and if I swipe to left from the delete button it deletes the whole word. If I type by swiping it doesn't require swipe but a single touch to delete button deletes the whole word. There are other ones like swiftkey, swype, hackers keyboard, perfect keyboard etc. But I didn't try them yet.

you can double tap on your word then remove it

@ogu does that app you use support swipe?

@Danial-mach1 yes it does support swipe. And you can choose to have more than three word suggestions. It's good, but somewhat a dissappointment when it comes to bilingual support.
