apps on xperia ray ST18i

Hi Sony and friends,

I Cannot download apps or upgrade existing apps on my phone.

It fails to recognise google talk at start up.

Trying to download apps is fails to receive the information from the server.

I have set up a google account on the phone, and apparently have the latest software upgrade available. Android version 2.3.4.

Is the phone too old, can i somehow upgrade the software, is there any setting that might help the problem?

Do you have enough internal storage? 

settings > apps > all > google play (repeat with any google app) > clear data > restart the phone 

also if that doesn't work, settings > accounts > google > remove this google account > restart the phone > re-add the account and report back

last thing, google talk was replaced by hangouts
