I've just transferred pictures and apps to my sd card. Some of my apps have turned grey and when I click on them they don't work and say it is stored on sd card. How do i get my apps back without losing any data?

which apps are those and what data do you think you'll lose? now a days the app data it's stored on the app servers

One was a photo app, another was a game, charm king, which has completely been removed from my phone now.

Before attempting anything else, take out the SD card and copy the contents to your computer or connect your phone to the computer and copy the contents of the SD card.

BTW Have you set Google to make automatic backups and have you set Google to copy all pictures to Google drive?

In that case you won't have to worry about address book, pictures and many more things.
