Phone will not connect with iCloud email account

I have iCloud email but Sony XA phone says cannot connect to server.  I can only use my gmail address.

I'm using the gmail app for gmail. 

Cannot connect to iCloud or my me.com emails at all on my Sony phone, only the iPad.

problem began a week ago. Apple was confirming my apple passwords. All Ok. 

Then my Sony phone would not recognize me.

still won't. Please help.

On your computer go to: appleid.apple.com

Sign in  > Scroll down to Security  

Enable Two-Factor Authentication
