Can Sony car stereos run after you turn the ignition off?

Can Sony car stereos run after you turn the ignition off?  I used to have a car stereo that would come back on for half-an-hour if you held the source button on after you turned the ignition off.  My new Sony CDX-DAB6650 car stereo turns off when you turn the car off and wont run unless the ignition is turned back on.  Is there any way round this without having it pawered independently of the ignition switch?  It would be nice for my passenger to still listen to the radio while I'm filling up, etc.

I had to run out to the car to make sure but yes, it should be possible, although, as you suggest in your question, it has more to do with how it is installed than being a feature of the product.

As a result, I would suggest speaking to an in-car specialist, who will know both the car and the stereo and hopefully be able to set both up to do exactly what you want.

I'm having the same problem with my CDX-GT540UI... I'm assuming the connections are right as the time and pre-programmed radio stations are not being lost, but I can't switch it on independant of the ignition switch.

I've got Mark 3 mondeo which I'm led to believe is Yellow = Perm live, Red = switched... so I left the sony bullet wiring as supplied (yellow - yellow, red - red)

Surely if I now switch these two, then I will start losing the time and radio stations???
