Windows 7 on vgn-s5xp/b no aero graphics !! Help please

Hi all - wonder if anybody can help please ?

I have installed windows 7 on my va10 model vgn-s5xp/b but cant get the aero graphics to work. A bigger problerm is that the existing geforce go6400 drivers cause it to blue screen when attempting to play video in application like media player.

When this machine had vista installed the correct graphics drivers were automatically installed and the aero graphics functioned perfectly. I have contacted sonys technical support who at most pointed me at Nvidias site - Sony as yet arent providing any driver updates on the main europian site for this - once expensive machine. This notebook doesnt seem to be compatible with any of NVidias drivers.

Does anybody have any suggestions please - might it be possible to extract the wddm drivers from a cab file on vista install ? If so which cab file and which drivers please ?

I will be greatfull for any suggestions.

Hi Andy and welcome.

You can try a recent Vista WDDM driver that should install OK like this one: -

If you search on that site you will find Windows 7 beta drivers but they will all require the modification of the installer .inf file. If you click on the HOME page and look for the Quickstart Guide in the right column, it will tell you what is involved - but try the one above first.
