VGN-B1VP Hibernation Problem

Hello!!

My nopebook power settings in windows xp pro sp2 are to hibernate the pc when the lid is closed.

This works perfectly the first time, then resumes when the power key is pressed.

However - if the machine is asked to hibernate again either by shutting the lid or the keyboard shortcut, it freezes on the blue windows xp logo "preparing to hibernate" screen.

any ideas?

thanks for the link, but this refers to win 3.1, plus their fix seems to be turning off hibernate all toghether which can't be right.

it does hibernate the first time, but the next time it's tried it fails and needs to be rebooted.

i'm thinking maybe windows is trying to end a program or service that can't be ended?

Ack wrong thread!

Have you checked Windows Update for a hibernation patch?

i have - checked vaio updates and windows update and it is 100% up to date.

the problem is pretty serious for me as i need to be shutting the lid a lot and could do with the vaio coming out of hibernation instead of rebooting every time

do you think i should sell it on ebay and use the cash to buy a Vaio FS115B ...
slightly lower spec in some areas but with an x-black screen.

any ideas?

It's a bit extreme selling it.

I can't find a decent reply either which winds me up.

Do you have a lot of space free on C:?

actually no, C is nearly full with all the pre-load, etc.. D is my work partition and has lots of space, plus all the software i've installed on it. I've pretty much left C as it was new.

why? what are you proposing!?

Well if the hard disk doesn't have the space to store whats in RAM it cannot do it properly, hence it's reboot.

ah yes.. good idea. It's got about 4gb free, so maybe that is the problem.

although, it does do it once per boot successfully, it's only subsequent times that it fails.

is there a way i can log this with sony?
