Notebook problem
Sony Vaio PCG - FX601 Notebook
Windows xp home Edition
About 10 months ago I decided to de-clutter the hard drives thoroughly by doing a factory restore and reinstalling only what I needed. I had been using the notebook for years and it was running fine but it just needed a spring clean. So I did a complete factory restore as I had done times before with no problem however, as windows asked me to log on this time, I noticed the keyboard wasn¿t working correctly.
Upon further investigation I realised my keyboard randomly misses keystrokes. Often requiring the repeat pressing of the original key. The problem does not focus itself on any particular set of keys either, it is just varied and frequent. It doesn¿t limit itself to a particular program either; word, photo-editor, explorer, games or even just naming files ¿ all are affected.
Also the built in mouse sometimes freezes when scrolling around the screen. It lasts for a second and then reappears halfway across the screen. There are also frequent occasions where the instant I touch the pad it vanishes and losses all function.
So I Checked all the drivers, Ran all the diagnostics and utilities, Ran anti virus software to check for viruses, De-cluttered the hard drives, plus made sure they were stable and defragmented. Still had the problem¿
Then I did another complete factory restore. But the problem remained so I sent it to Sony who basically did nothing except replace the keyboard.
And so¿ the problem remains!
But I don¿t think the keyboard is actually to blame I think the notebook has developed a fault that causes it to skip for a split second and so it doesn¿t register my pressing the keys. But quite frankly I haven¿t a clue!
Please could someone point me in the right direction with this one ¿ cause I¿m at a loss.
Hi
Have you changed the keyboard sensitivity settings in Control Panel > Keyboard ?
Thanks but i looked at that as an option and it wasn't a problem.
I wondered if it could be a software fault with the operating of XP - since it seemed to occur when i reinstalled the original disks.
Could it be possible that xp didn't install properly and theres a rogue dll file or corrupted registry or something - is that plausible? If so how can i check?
Xp is fully updated and so are the drivers too.
