Hi Gents,
I have a Vaio PCG-Z1SP 1GB RAM/60GB HDD/1.5GHz CPU. The operating system is Windows XP Pro with SP1 pre-installled on delivery (some time ago).
I am currently installing MS Office Pro 2007 onto my wifes laptop (an VGN-FE31H with SP2 pre-installed).
I was also thinking of upgrading my (very old) MS Office with this same software but instructions say you must have SP2 installed. My question is whether 'you' think I am opening a can of worms upgrading my machine to SP2 (which I am continually being prompted to do). I seem to remember that some people had lots of problems upgrading their software to SP2.
Advice/opinions would be appreciated please.
Gyron
Hi Gyron,
I did not encounter any problems when I upgraded to SP2, installing Sp2 will plug a lot of holes and makes your PC more secure, this alone I feel makes it worthwhile upgrading..
Had to do it twice to get my friend's RA104 to accept it, had to do a system restore (the windows app not reformat)
Thank you Thalamus and Kee-Lo for replies. One for and one against by the sounds of things. I have so much trouble after using the DiscClean software I am very wary of creating more problems suh as the one cited by Kee-Lo. I think I would prefer to leave the upgrade for ime being IF possible.
If Office 2007 is 'saying' that I ought to have SP2 on the machine, would I be in trouble installing the Office 2007 'on top of' SP1 in your opinion?
Thanks again,
Gyron
Hi Gyron,
My view would be that you are asking for more trouble installing Office 2007 on a SP1 machine than you are by installing SP2.
I think you should install SP2 if you are going to install Office 2007. I am just reading the System Requirements for Office 2007 that are very specific that SP2 or later is required. If you do not want to install SP2 then I would leave Office 2007 also.
I probably have a spare SP2 upgrade on CD if you need it.

Hi Blencogo,
Hmm, thanks for that. One of the upgrade prompts I periodiclly get from the task bar is for SP2 but I have always resisted its installation because I had 'heard' on the Vaio Forum just how many problems various people seem to have had with it. So I guess I have it available there for upgrade - thanks for the offer.
Maybe I ought to back-up all important files and 'bite the bullet'!!
Thanks again,
Gyron
