Hello all. Recently purchased a Vaio vgn-s2xp. Very happy. Now I'm a bit of an OS minimalist, I like it to be snappy so having tried to uninstall most of the Sony software I hit an impass. Seems that some of the stuff that change the shell can't be fully removed. Not deterred by this I promptly did a complete re-install of Windows XP. I'd all ready pulled the driver and utils pack and installed these once I'd got a base build of XP Pro (not SP2).
The wireless drivers appeared to work and the device installed ok. However, when trying to connect to my wireless router I noticed the signal strength was very low, much weaker than it had been before. The DHCP delivered IP address was right, but the subnet mask was wrong. 255.255.128.0 instead of 255.255.255.0. The connection continually droppped out aswell. I use a WEP key and I made sure this was correctly inputted.
Any ideas?
